Should you wait to buy a new 2021 television? Or just go with an older 2020 model? When is the best time of the year to buy a new TV? We answer these questions by going through some price history charts of popular 2020 TVs (LG CX, Samsung Q90T & Sony XH90/ X900H) from UK price comparison site PriceSpy.co.uk to arrive at a proven formula.
www.pricespy.co.uk
We also outline which 2021 televisions from 5 major TV brands (Samsung, LG, Sony, Panasonic and Philips) will have sufficient hardware upgrades (brighter OLED panel, Mini LED backlighting, HDMI 2.1) worth waiting for.
The "Includes Paid Promotion" message at the start of this video refers to the sponsorship by Audible.

Should You Buy a 2021 or 2020 TV? Best Time of Year to Buy A New TV [Proven Formula]

That's good advice, well if you can wait, I would even say wait until the new model is here to get the absolute best price. By that time you will also know if the newer model does have anything worthwile waiting for or not. That way you willl keep the fomo away for at least a year until a new model comes out again. If you buy on black friday, maybe you get buyers remorse just a few months later when the first rumors about the new generation start to leak or you get angry because your TV suddenly drops in price significantly more than what you paid just 2 months earlier. You also avoid the BF madness this way ;) So I just bought a LG CX 65 inch for 1300 bucks :D

Dying from that intro and thumbnail

What do you think of Samsungs new Q60A, Q70A, and Q80A that just released? I got a Q60A but can't decide where to return it and spend a few hundred more for the Q70A or LG CX or BX when the price drop some
ejteidneW
Hopefully you soon have a best TV for gaming 2021. As the noob I am when it comes to TV's, I'm gonna need it 🤭
Patrick Soon
C1 wasn't on the list. Does this mean that one should get thr 2020 model (LG CX) instead?
Gregory Evans
Should you buy a TV that can get screen burn or buy one that doesn't i prefer the one that doesn't

Bought my Sony A9G last November, and I couldn't care less what TV is coming out for the next 5-6 years. :)
Gilles Babyle
So 2021 TCL TVs are not worth it ?
Gareth Soper
Due to Samsung's "birthday" 15% reduction I can get a Q90T, which has now dropped to £1999 for the 75", for £1699. Clearly this is a good buy..but should I be waiting for more detailed reviews of all brand mini LED tech being mass introduced towards the end of april when my discount will have run out? OR should I be looking for a 75" OLED somewhere around the 2k mark? I have until the end of this month before the discount code expires. Another option is the Q950R from Currys @ £2,299 whilst it still exists. I should also add that despite a massive price hike for them that the new Samsung "Neo" range have actually shown a LOSS of dark detail compared to the Q90T. Urgent advice needed before I impulse buy.

Dude you should be required viewing for every Best Buy employee. Also, your thumbnail for this video is amazing.
Lele _82
yes but on the SONY, for example, AV1 codec support, is missing ! This is a big issue
Jerry Georgopolis
Excellent...thank you !
Justin Godley
In addition to this, I have heard that Samsung BN59 - 01260A is an EXCELLENT match
Adil Rahman
I'm in Canada and am getting the Q90T 75 inch for an incredible price $2800. Should I still wait for the 2021 model?
thenonexistinghero
I'd say it's always best to buy a TV that's about 6-12 months old. I got my Sony 65 Z9F for €1500 around 6 months after launch (and it cost like €3600 when it did). LG's CX OLED TV's (55 inch) are going for around €1000-€1100 right now. Unless you throw as much abuse at a TV as me (8 hours on work days, 18-20 hours on free days I spend at home), that's probably the best price/performance you can get right now. Great size for a TV that displays pretty much the best image you can currently get (anything better is only very slightly better).
Wesley Edwards
Amazing advice!! I’m going to get a 2020 LG CX 55
David Teles
What about pre order? Samsung if offering a 700€ Sound bar and 5% in reward point to spend on the online store

Great video as usual, would like to know recommendations on 55”.. which one you recommended Samsung 2020 high end Q90T (as it is lesser in price now) vs Samsung QN85A 2021 model...

Would I get the LG CX for even cheaper if I wait until Nov 2021? Or has that hit it's lowest price already? The C1 doesn't seem worth the extra dollars.
Jan Larsen
I'll wait to to pricedrop on BF and buy 2021 LG C1 77"
Hey, but wait, then the new model of 2022 is soon to come out in March 2022, no i'll wait to BF 2022 and get me an LG 77"

Looking to buy the xh90 75".. do you think it's worth buying it now? Or will price drop bit more as soon as the x90j is out?
julian Weijers
There is a cashback action from Philips. What are your thoughts about it? Is it worth it? Or wait for black Friday?
Genuran -
just bought the 65'' CX here in my country for 1300$, what a steal!
Jesse
I want a 2020 TV. When would you predict the best time to buy is? When the new models come out in April - June 2021?
Alex Conner

Not sure if HDMI 2.1 on the Sony is worth waiting for. For gamers maybe. For HDR capabilities? will there even be enough hdr content to connect through HDMI?

I bought the c9 for $2200, 3 weeks later the cx was on sale for the same price. I didn’t feel like making the exchange so I kept the c9. I have no buyers remorse and I’m very happy with the c9

Avoid buyers remorse, live at Bestbuy, never purchase anything, always wait for the next great thing
Zach Hendrickson
Fun anecdote, this year I found a new in box LG E8 OLED (2018) at a store. They had lost the tv for some time and had recently added it back into stock. Their system showed the original price around $3500, and when I asked for the clearance price the punched it in and....$400. I've never bought a tv so fast in my life.
razzakov riyad
Do you recommend to buy Q90T and don't wait for Q90A?
korndog81
Yes, the Q90A is a downgrade
MR. G
hahaha. good one . keep it up
Roylez
I bought the Sony 55xh90 last week I think need a calibration 😔
Mikael Fredriksson
Got my 55q90t on black Friday for 2000$ cad (tax and 4 year warranty included.) The 55qn90a goes for 2799$ here plus tax. So yeah no buyers remorse whatsoever! I'll get another tv in 4 to 5 years
Savage.Sadistic.Sensational Yong
Would you do the last year Sony model TV X8000H ?
AKmakeaBeat
Me after buying a 2019 TV : Interesting
LonghornsLegend
That new OLED evo panel sounds great honestly and worth a few hundred dollars extra. The 2020 models did very little to upgrade from 2019, but this is a great change worth waiting for

Can anyone recommend A8H or A80J?
Jonas Petersen
Just the kind of video i needed. Perfect!!
Nick Doucette
Damn, I just ordered the x900h. I'll be canceling and waiting.
Nick Doucette
@DisneyTLK110 Cost. I was a college student a few years ago and the TV I have now is sub-pair ok, I've been waiting and for the right time to upgrade. And not to mention burn in, but I know it's every unlikely it would happen if I monitor it correctly.
DisneyTLK110
@Nick Doucette why didn't you buy OLED in the first place?
Nick Doucette
@Jeremy Monson Yes, but I want OLED
Jeremy Monson
x900h has hdmi 2.1
Rom Capprotti
The new Sony‘s 65 inch models are going to be about $4000 that’s 1500 more than the A8H $2000 more than the LG CX model 65 inch that’s a big price difference and I think the new LG’s are going to be about the same about double the price that’s a big difference
Arun Aravind
Can you pls compare the Toshiba U7980 pls
Erick Gomez
So i have the 2019 LG 65” c9... when is it best to upgrade? Or in other words, what is the life span of LG oleds?
Realicepick2
I personally am finally going to upgrade from the 2015 b series. I caused burn in in 2018. I've trialed other high end sets but they haven't been good enough. My next set is the g1 or x1.
Erick Gomez
@Spenny 😰
Spenny
You need a new tv tomorrow
Jose Cespedes
Ive found an lg CX with 56% discount now. It is the correct time to buy it?
james oneill
@Leonard McCook-Carr it's basically the same screen only the g1 gets the new evo screen and remember you will have to wait until June or later to see any price drop. I am gonna buy one now a cx for 1300 euro.
Leonard McCook-Carr
I'm having the same dilemma. I'm not sure if I should wait for the C1 or get a CX. This is my first time going OLED
Michael Carson
Wait for 2022. ;D Prices are nuts for certain goods right now.
J3NNY949
When does the LG C1 release?

I stopped collecting /buying blu-rays after 4k blu rays have released for the 3x higher price...
SilentChaos15
So I should be glad I didn't get the GX last year. I am glad I got the Q90R on a good deal but I'm wondering if I will regret it when I see the Neo QLED.
Naveen Sabesan
"...by a massive 50 quid..." lol 🤣
Harikrishanan V
Is it worth taking sony xh90 now? It's just 800€ for 55". Please suggest.
Daniel Grove
£1169 for the LG CX 55 now... very tempting! I really like the look of the Sony A90J or A80J, I know they'll be no where near the price of the CX right now come November though. Think the extra money will be worth it 😜
Hermes McClintok
Excellent thumbnail choice
X3 Dominator
Was able to buy an LG 65 NANO 85 for $896USD and LG 82” 8570 for $1596 this week. Crutchfield was offering a $300 combo discount on LG sound bars as well so added an SN8YG for $496. Feel very good about this pricing. Replacing a 9 year old Bravia 55” so I’m sure it will be a massive improvement for Less money than I originally gave for the Bravia
Arcadian
Bought my CX in February. That was when I was ready to buy one, so that's when I bought it.
yamabushi170
That was beautiful man. You're breathtaking!

@Spenny No problem

Best Video yet!!!!

Any recommendations on a full array or mini LED 65” LED as an upgrade from my Panasonic VT60. Needs to be good at content upscaling from broadcast and digital content, as well as handle motion for sports. Don’t use it for serious gaming other than Nintendo Switch. Also needs to have a decent user friendly remote control and have good support for DLNA media streaming from my NAS which has primarily 1080p content.

Good review
Lamont Pierce
I'm looking for a new TV now.
Sylvia Lankert
2021 100%
or wait 1.5-2.5 years for OLED Tv, as LG OLED panels will get up to a 50% price drop as Vincent shows in another Video.
but in arround half a year a 65"/77" should be ok as well and worth the wait it you are thinking of buying a new TV.
Grace Kelly
My plan was to wait til 2021 models would be more affordable by black friday, but I got an offer for a 55CX I couldn't resist, less than 4 figures. I plan to hold on to it for about a year, see how 2022 models are and if there's nothing groundbreaking get a 77in LG G1 or 83in Sony A90J.
Manuel Mesa
As always, I’m here for the jokes. Great info by the way!

What do you mean? We have two LG CX, a Sony A8H, a Sony X900H, a VIZIO OLED, a Samsung Q80T and a Philips 935 OLED sitting here.

65" QN90A(2021) at 2,599.99 vs 65" CX(2020) at 2,1499.99. What do yall think is the better option???

The big question is will the LG TVs have all the UK catch-up services this time
mick schnabel
STILL holding out for a good deal on an LG CX 65", and they are STILL around $2K here in the US! Good thing I don't technically need a TV atm, but keeping an eye on this tv's price has been frustrating to say the least.
