LG CX OLED vs Sony X900H (XH90) It Shouldn't be THIS Close!! | OLED vs LCD

I just purchased the Sony X90H. I previously owned the Sony X900E before it died on me. Can you please provide your calibration settings for the X90H?
Rado Tej
unnatural colors, blacks crushed, reflexions and price- OLED is overhyped
Christopher Carrasquillo
Something people don't realize too is that it all depends on the content you feed the tv's too. B the Installer did a comparison between the Vizio OLED and the Sony X900H and he found that there were no major huge difference when watching movies in HDR.
Christopher Carrasquillo
I have a Sony X900H and I love the PQ. People think that OLED tv's are sooo much better, but the reality is that the differences between some LCD tv's and OLEDS are subtle. I am sure OLEDS are better because of the black levels, but the Sony X900H gets close.
Jaroslav Poss
What a brilliant video, thank you :)
Stelios Alexandrou
Great channel and reviews! I have my 75 inch X90H on the way! I wish to make some observations if you can answer please. You mention that the CX settings are in standard mode with some adjustments. Isn't the reference setting for LG CX the 'Expert Dark Room' or 'Expert Bright Room'? This is what I use aswell for my current LG cheaper set and it is by far the most accurate. The reason I am saying this is that you calibrate the Sony to be as close as possible to the CX but the settings for the CX are not in their 'reference' settings. Have you made any adjustments since these videos? Or perhaps set the LG CX to its 'reference' settings and then readjust the Sony to see if it can match it? That would be a great help and a hell of a new video upload on your channel!

Great comparison video. Thanks. Got one of these Sonys on the way. Would love to see your settings please.

It's almost insane how close they are.. Exceptionally few differences.. Then you realize the 900H is a budget TV. Wonder how the 950H would have faired in this comparison, being more than twice as bright as the 900H.
Also makes you wonder how the upcoming X90J and X95J (more looking forward to X95) would fair.. Because of that new XR processor that enhances the image and colors.
Everyone swears by OLED. But I think people do not realize it's far from perfect and I am not talking burn in here. I am talking shadow detail and black crush.
OLED often times simply present a black image when it's NOT supposed to be. Could be a game and you step into a dark room. And it shows walls and corners in pitch black when that is not even logical. If ANY light exist in a room there CANNOT be pitch black (OLED infinite black turn off cells) areas anywhere..
I literally was up in my room at night waking up from sleeping. The room is of course very dark. It only has a very very dim LED clock and a small led light on an air purifier and yet I could see every corner and make out detail. On an OLED if that was a movie or game you wouldn't see anything but the light sources themselves..
Yes contrast with color and black makes for nice images. But it's bad when you actually want and need shadow detail.
I think the newer OLEDs like the C1 will fair better at this because they introduced "black and white balance" sliders in game mode.
I have an LG CX on the way, but I am thinking of either cancelling it or just "demo" it and if it fails on anything return it and wait for Sony X95J.. I have a 4 year old 900E from Sony and it's just great.
eazy14
Of course I would chose the sony tv, the price difference is just too big which does not justify the advantages of the lg
X900H 55 = 860€
CX 55 = 1400 €
Amir Amran
Cx puts x900x to shame.
Siniša Cvijetić
Sony backlight bleeding and dark corners, LG CX is much better!
Timothy
People forget, OLED may have theoretical advantages over LCD, but Sony is the king of image processing so all things considered, LG OLED isn't necessarily better than a good Sony. Also the test videos have ZERO relevance to real world viewing. How many of you are watching black screens and with a single moving white circle? It demonstrates theoretical capabilities which often doesn't translate into real world experience. As one person said, "the sony gives an experiences well above the sum of it's parts"...try to explain that phenomena with simply test numbers...

Curiously sony tvs are more expensive in my country so I went for the CX at a sale. Best tv I have ever owned.
JH
In Asia sony’s ones are made in Japan, which makes them a lot more premium and expensive
Brian
I was contemplating getting an LG but after this review I think I'll get the Sony and save meself some serious cash.
Marty W
For my aging eyes the 900h is good enough. Plus I have a really bright living room(lots of windows) and an oled just doesn't make sense because of the reflection I would get. I actually own a 930e and it has been a fantastic tv. Will be keeping it for a long time unless it gets hit by lighting or something.
V. Burianov
Sony pwm??? 😳
kostasAALE
How LG is better than this Sony, i don't know. To my eyes Sony is way better with no color bleeding like LG has and i don't even have a Tv so don't care about the brand.
Abdulrahman Alamoudi
Extremely helpful, detailed and well-presented review. Thanks!
Rafael Coll
From beginning to @0:55 you show Sony on left side... then you swap them in the video footage. It caused me sort of confusion at first.

Xh950 is closer to oled

Be careful with Sony’s Dolby Vision. MAJOR SOFTWARE ISSUES!!

Hey! Do you have the settings for the Sony TV?

I have the Sony and its amazing TV for the price diference than the CX ! I got the Sony and ps5 and have saved money for games, in comparison with LG CX prize difference :P Both are great Tv's ! But no extra care and burn in posibilities for the Sony ... also the bright luminus level i like it specially in games !
Behind_The_Dead
LED SONY you said LCD !!!!

What are your settings for the Sony X900H

thanks great comparison. would like to see your settings on the Sony.

#Sony 😍
Jonnyashimself
Awesome comparison. It really just seems like -- do you care more about deeper blacks and shadow detail? Or do you care about more natural/accurate colors? (while also saving $600)
RaleighUFO
I liked the video. Thanks. You said you would provide the settings but I see a ton of people asking for them. Did you post? Thanks,

I bought my Sony XH90 for 900€ 6 months ago and I am happy with it the only negative point I have with this TV is the blooming in dark scene with white objects because of the low amount of dimming zones other than that the TV is really good for 900€.
But I regret one thing and its that the LG OLED BX was in sale 2 weeks after I bought the Sony, for only 1044€ and for only 144€ more to have a OLED I absolutely would have gone for the BX cause you have a sharper picture with moving objects cause of the Response time of 1ms vs 5ms (sony xh90) you have 4 HDMI 2.1 , 1ms less input delay and of course the even better contrast and blacks.
But right now the price for a LG OLED BX is 1.200€ and for the Sony XH90 in 55 inch its 800€. And 400€ more for OLED is not worth it or lets say you gotta have a limit somewhere...
Boris Kosulin
Wow, Sony x900h in games is sooo much worse... Look at the background, it's all flat and dull and kinda burry, with no even highlights, while LG shows an excellent work, it's like 2d vs 3d
Jester435

Do keep in mind that the X900H is built with the LEDs in a 2x2 array. If one LED dies, it'll take three with it. Something to consider for long-term reliability.
Seneca Giles
Can I get those settings for the Sony?
Gary Waldron
I’m seriously considering returning my 77 inch CX for the 85 inch 900H
hughesie27
What are the settings for the Sony?
Chris
Bullshit. You're either blind or you have no idea what you're talking about. The 900H is trash, I tested them side by side with OLED and even the X950H. Don't be fooled by videos like this. X900H looks washed out nearly all of the time.
Sports Genius
Lol I'm seeing a big difference in quality. Idk why he is saying it's close. I'm getting the 65 cx. Any sound bar you reccomend?
jrronn87
HELP!! Can anyone comment on the smoothness on motion when watching sports ?? I just returned a Samsung Q80T since it was absolutely garbage streaming live sports, so Blurry. I know SONY are better than Samsung when it comes to motions but can anyone tell my how live sports run at this TV ??
arncht
Thx for the compare... i ordered the lg cx65, the panel is a crap. They send top panels for testing, and the users will get banding issues in the gray. I send it back, and think about a 75 inch cheaper sony. In the past 12 years i was happy with the mediocre sonys, i do not have so high expectations.
Roger N
Different screen technology's. Impressive blacks on Sony's xh
With there picture processor. On sale 55inch for £899

Is the refresh rate on the sony 120hz at 4k?

I bought the LG CX 77" for 3100 € . And i am very happy with it. I compared the Sony with the LG ,and for me personally the LG had better picture quality.
Ravi Pallela
lg CX model is top model in OLED but sony is led but it is given fight, that is sony...
Eric
What 4K amp do you use?
favorite 85
I also have both televisions and I agree with you. It's amazing how close they are to each other. Except for the viewing angle and the black and white worth but otherwise both very, very good TV.
Kratos lost Son
On the Sony did you have the expert 1 or 2 picture setting on?
Rustam Biisenbayev
Biggest dilemma is to get a 5000$ 77 CX, or 3500$ 85 Sony...
Rustam Biisenbayev
Sony is literally more than twice cheaper
Chris Muneta
You want a proper Tv just get a Sony period.
Lee Davies
Hi, can you/anyone please confirm if the xh90's built in Disney+ app will output Dolby Atmos to Dolby Atmos enabled AVR/ Soundbar? Thanks
Varun Balwani
Will there be a firmware to fix dimming ?
Han Jeo Min
overall i go for SONY
Microwave
I think one burns in but will have great blacks and the other doesn't burn in and has slightly worse blacks after the sun goes down with the lights off, the LG's white is not a true white either it's actually blue tinted out of the box while the Sony's is just warmer tinted out of the box, none of these TVs are going to be perfect either and I've yet to find any TV that didn't need calibration after purchase yet. I do think the sony does have better color accuracy over the oled but I think once quantum dot oleds are out on the market that won't be an issue any longer. I think I'd take the Sony myself because I know my habits and I also know I play older games with solid HUD elements that will burn-in with very little time required. At this point I'm waiting for microLED to actually become purchasable from a retail store at an affordable price without needing 'panels' to assemble my TV to a wall which is at least 10 years away at the very least.
aneke von
I think the Sony have a better image, better colours than LG CX and at half of price.

This entire video is a lie. I purchased the X900h, 85”, for my theater. Previously had a 65” C8. After 8 hours I packed the thing up and returned to the store for the 77” LG CX. These TVs aren’t even remotely in the same ballpark.
Not only does the X900h have a HORRIBLE picture but the blacks are almost a slate grey. If you’re using a PS5 and Xbox Series X, you’ll have to switch HDMI cables from one system to the next because the only other HDMI 2.1 port handles eARC. Oh, eARC is completely non functional!! Once setup the audio is muddy even passing through to my Denon. Once the TV is restarted, no other HDMI input works with eARC without resetting it up again.
I’m not a fan boy of ANY manufacturer but this Sony Bravia is absolute trash. If you’re “astounded” at “how close” the image quality is between these two TVs, you’re blind.
Big big thumbs down for this video. I’m not a fan of liars.

Is the q90 better?
Troy
What we're the Sony settings please? Did you have to take the contrast down to 49?
장우영
Currently, LG has a 100% oled technology share
So, All 19 manufacturers(SONY, SHARP, Panasonic, LOEWE, VIZIO...etc) around the world use Korean oled panels
Nicolas Shepherd
The sony is just as good in its own way.
Mike Grillo
Love the channel! With Sony pushing the VRR out to a later date, would you still purchase X900 vs say the Q90T or the LG CX?? I will be gaming on this as well!
Dyeace
Have a 65c8. Think I'm going back to led. More bang for buck and more importantly no god-awful stutter/judder on panning shots!!!
bh69videa
OLED image looks here worse - too cold (blueish) image, strange color of blue sky (green tint), terrible reflections of panel ... plus burm out risk, black crush tendency, stutter and worse movement than Sony ... LCD has problems too (flickering/PWM, backlight homogenity), but it seems to be safer to choose ?
Kemal Ahmedi
I think lg has already burn in you can see white square on the video on lg tv screen
Adam
Buy a year old OLED instead. While the x900h is a great tv OLED picture quality is still much better.
Fan Tomas
Lg cx the Best 👍 i have c9 wonderfull
Sony is a very great tv for the price

THERE IS NO WARRANTY ON OLED PANEL ..IT IS ABSOLUTE USELESS PANEL AFTER U GOT DISPLAY PROBLEM ....

Excellent comparison 👍

On the Sony X900H the four corners looks dimmer than the LG CX
Anthony Lack
I also have the LG 65CX for the Living room and the Sony X900H 65” for the bedroom. What would be your best settings for the Sony for a bedroom setting? cheers.
Anthony Lack
@ricksb5 I personally think the LG is superior. The Sony is still a good TV. But OLED as a whole is better. I have both. The LG is definitely the main TV.
ricksb5
Would you say the LG Cx looks better than the Sony?
Charles Dela Cruz
How's Sony x90h compare with LG BX?
brian
Sony’s color is wayyyy more accurate I’m really not seeing the big deal with OLEDS
James Broadfoot
I've been waiting to buy the X900 65 inch but the price hasn't dropped again to the $999 it was on sale at during Black Friday (it is $1,399 right now at BB)... the CX 65 inch is on sale right now at $1,999 ($500 off it's regular price of $2,499). I guess it's a no-brainer to go with the LG for the extra $600? Unless the Sony goes on sale again... but will that happen?? I can justify saving a grand by going with the Sony, but $600? I don't think so.
suman rana
Got Sony 900h 85 waiting ps5 ,..!$?
Michal Iliaš
Sony is VA panel, so: prinky tone in colors, especially on white which is rather lighr-pink-white. I do hate this on VA panels. Aside of this, it's great how it can compete an OLED panel ! Great review.
Vang Chong
The X950H was ranked number one in term of Best pictures quality , supreme contrast and sound on youtube
Sam Arshad
I've bought a the 55 inch version of the sony, have unboxed it and it looks great but I'm yet to mount it on wall and watch it from bed. I'm worried that I should have actually gone for 65 inch 😅 because the bed headboard is about 3.5 meters from where the tv will be. Did anyone else buy the 55 inch version and how far away from it do you sit, and how has it been?
DaveSG
Good comparison vid.
I was in for the sony xh90, lg cx or samsung q95t.
I dropped the lg first because of burning in and the quality reduction of oled.
In the end I went for the samsung q95t. Connect box and anti reflection screen did it for me.
Jonny
ok so real question. 55 inch sony x9000h for 900 quid or 55 inch oled cx for 1350? usage would be gaming and movies.
Steven LeBlanc
When is Sony going to issue a recall for these XBR Bravia bad Android TVs
These UHD 4k Smart TVs are failing due to bad Main Boards typically less than 2 years after purchase and people are left with a dead (and very expensive) TV. Sony technicians are typically asking about $1000 for repairs which means the TV is basically headed for the garbage pile unless Sony issues a recall and admits there is a major hardware defect effecting thousands (possibly millions) of Android-based TVs which RENDERS THE TV UNUSABLE, typically with sympoms where the TV starts over and over again after reaching the Androids screen. Factory resets are not possible.
Some of the models effected: A2072545A, A2072545C, 1-894-595-11, 189459511, XBR-55X900C, XBR-65X900C, XBR-75X910C MAIN BOARD
SONY YOU KNOW THERE IS A BIG PROBLEM HERE AND YOU HAVE IGNORED HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF CONSUMERS WHO NOW HAVE DEAD ANDROID-BASED BRAVIA TVS DUE TO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT, ARE YOU GOING TO RECALL OR PROVIDE FREE OR SUBSIDIZED REPAIRS OR NOT?
I am one of the victims that’s has been screwed by Sony and lost thousands of dollars due to their carelessly made products. Not only once but 2 times this has happened. For a $1000+ tv that can’t last more than 2 years is very unacceptable and if you don’t have a warranty forget about it. You are nothing to them. They don’t care that you are a faithful consumer, spend thousands of dollars and are left with nothing after it breaks. Worst company and products and this is coming from a Sony person of 20+ years. I purchased my tv at this time now 4 years ago and as of today there are people still posting about these TVs on the Sony community forum. Yet Sony chooses to do nothing about it.
All Sony does is have a problems with their TVs because they don’t understand how to make them. Hence why they needed to buy “LG” parts. Use this as a warning and stay away from them.
kikoR1 RB
Sony the best. TV real colors

am i the only one who thinks that the sony looks better in everything except black levels? like the colors look a lot better and more natural in this video imo

*I just bought a 75" SONY XH90 a month ago and so far, I am really pleased with it and wouldn't change it for an OLED (explanations below).*
The only flaw of the XH90 is its "clouding" effect, but it is problematic only when (very) dark scenes with no lighting are displayed on screen. In other cases, it's mostly unnoticeable.
Not only the XH90 is much (much) cheaper, but also it's not an OLED: sure, *the blacks on OLED are superb, but their "burn-in" effect is a MAJOR flaw, and it's not a problem of "if" but rather a problem of "when" it will occur (especially if you use your TV a lot).* I had a Panasonic OLED for 2 years and a half and when the burn-in kicked in, the TV was barely useable. Even the "10 years no marks warranty" (that some companies offer) is complete crap as when you read the warranty contract, you realize that you must not use you TV "too extensively" or the warranty stops after a certain amount of hours of utilisation. Never again.

Interesante! Había pensado en luego hacer el upgrade a la lg cx, pero definitivamente con lo que comentas me quedo con mi sony 900h
